Today (5 August 2011) is nine months to go to the crucial local elections in English District, Unitary and Metropolitan councils on 5th May 2011.
Nearly 2000 Liberal Democrat councillors will face the electorate in the biggest "round" in the four-year local elections cycle.
G8 Grants to help your local campaign
ALDC administers the local "G8" grants scheme to help Liberal Democrats win local elections. We're currently looking for applications for Round 1 of the grants scheme for 2011 for campaigning work this Autumn. The deadline to register interest in the grants is 20th August, applications need to be in by 27th August. Register your interest here.
Training to help you WIN
A busy programme of training is planned for the rest of 2010 to help you win next May. The next major training opportunity is at Liverpool Federal Conference with a combination of 1/2 Campaign Workshops and a whole course of Essential Campaign Techniques. More information here.
The best training your campaign team will receive is ALDC’s flagship training event the Kickstart Weekend 26-28 November 2010 in Derby. Here we’re able to offer a campaign team a whole weekend of work with an experienced campaigner-mentor, as well as 20 hours of different levels of training. Teams who attend Kickstart have a proven record of doing better in the subsequent May’s elections than team that don’t!
Register for Kickstart
here. We do have a small amount of half price places for “black hole” areas and you can apply for financial support to attend Kickstart through the G8 process.
Join Us!
I know that a high number of the Liberal Democrats facing election next year are already ALDC members, either individually or through a group membership scheme.
If you’re one of the unlucky ones who are not, then now is a great time to join. Last time your seats were up in 2007 councillors who were ALDC members were three and a half times MORE LIKELY to be re-elected than those who weren’t.
